Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back and Happy New Year. We have a new topic for the Spring term called ‘In the Beginning’. Throughout this term, we will have fun learning about ancient civilizations, which include the Sumer, Indus Valley, Ancient Egyptians and the Shang Dynasty.

5S will have their PE lessons on MondayPE for 5G will be on a Thursday, with swimming taking place on a Monday. On PE days, children must come to school dressed in their full PE kit and also bring trainers in order to get the most from their outdoor PE lessons. For swimming, children will need to bring swimming costumes/trunks/goggles and a towel in a waterproof bag each week.

Children have a school reading book that they should bring to school every day. Children are expected to read every night at home (preferably with an adult), or at least four times per week. Spelling Tests will take place on a Monday each week this term. Homework will be a set of tasks linked to our wider curriculum and Science learning, and children should complete 2 or 3 tasks of their choice. We will have a ‘Festival of Homework’ in the final week of the half term to celebrate the children’s efforts.

Punctuality and attendance are crucial for your child’s progress in Year 5.  We would be grateful if you would ensure they arrive on time for when school opens at 8.35 am. Other ways you can support are to help them to learn their times tables, read with them frequently, help them practise their spellings and encourage them to complete their homework.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child, please put a note in your child’s school planner or leave a message at the school office and we will get back in touch with you.

Kind regards,

Miss Gardee and Mrs Saunders

Class Rules

Our Learning

This term, Year 5 have enjoyed taking their learning outdoors in Forest School. They explored the natural environment, worked together to build dens and developed teamwork, creativity and confidence in the woodland setting.
Year 5 had an exciting Term 1A trip to The Beacons, where they met the brilliant Tọlá Okogwu. The children loved listening to her speak about storytelling, creativity and what inspired Champions of the Galaxy. They were delighted to come away with signed copies of the book to continue their reading adventure.
